In anticipation of today’s Leadership Training with Colleen Stanley, let’s talk about assertiveness. Not to be confused with aggression, being assertive is having the ability to effectively express yourself and advocate for your point of view while respecting others. Assertiveness is a core communication skill, and employing an assertive style is beneficial in both the workplace and in life. In fact, according to an article published by the Mayo Clinic, there are related health benefits to being assertive. In addition to gaining self-confidence, self-esteem and self-respect, communicating assertively can help an individual better manage stress, reduce anger and improve coping skills.

So while you consider the many benefits of finding your voice and respecting yourself and others, please join us today for what is sure to be an enlightening session with Colleen Stanley as she addresses how confidence and feminine assertiveness impacts negotiations in the workplace.

Indictments vs. Indicators:
When people are offended, it can be a very common reaction to blame, or indict, the other person. Mostly the offense serves to alert us to something within ourselves that we need to address. Next time you are triggered, use this tool to look within at the indicator first and decide if an indictment is still justified. If so, always proceed with a spirit of patience, kindness, and grace in your resolution with the end result of understanding and unity.

“You might not be able to control your circumstances,
but you can control your response to your circumstances.”
- Condoleezza Rice
